Question
Prove that (53+32) is an irrational number given that 3 is an irrational number. Solution
1
Let 53+32 be a rational number.
∴53+32=ba where a and b are integers and b=0. +1 mark2
53=ba−32
3=15b3a−2b
3a−2b and 15b are integers. +1 mark3
∴ RHS is rational.
But LHS =3 is an irrational number which is contradiction to our supposition.
Hence 53+32 is an irrational number. +1 mark
